Add your voice to support the Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder Act! This bill aims to help local firefighters buy homes in the communities they educate and serve.
Many firefighters can't afford to live in the communities where they work. They put their lives on the line daily but aren't able to lay their heads down in a home they own after a shift.
The HELPER Act will support the firefighters serving in our communities by giving them the ability to afford a home in those communities. By offering affordable mortgage possibilities along with no down payment or monthly mortgage insurance, the HELPER Act is a true bipartisan effort to enrich the lives of our local heroes.
One of the biggest factors in buying or refinancing a home is money coming in versus what will be spent. The unfortunate reality is that most firefighters aren’t making the money necessary to pay for a home in the current market.
As of 2022, the median home price in the United States is over $400,000. The median salary for an experienced firefighter is $52,000. For the men and women putting their lives on the line to keep us safe in our homes, the numbers don’t add up.
With interest rates fluctuating and sale prices rising, the real estate market is competitive and many people, including firefighters, are getting left behind. That’s why the HELPER Act is so important.

"The HELPER Act is a long overdue relief package that firefighters are beyond deserving of. The average salary for these professionals isn't astronomical so it's important to make housing more obtainable so they can concentrate on protecting our local communities."
The list of people and organizations who believe in the HELPER Act is growing every day.
